Following an investigation conducted by the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC), Mr Yasish Emrith, aged 31 and a company director, was arrested on 23 March 2026 in connection with an alleged money laundering case. He has been provisionally charged with money laundering in breach of sections 36(1)(b) and 38(3) of the Financial Crimes Commission Act 2023, read in conjunction with section 44(1)(b) of the Interpretation and General Clauses Act.

The Commission has reasonable grounds to suspect that Mr Emrith, while acting as director and being concerned in the management of Capitay (Mauritius) Ltd, was in possession of properties which, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly represent the proceeds of crime, and that he had reasonable grounds to suspect their illicit origin.

Three search operations were carried out at his residence in Pereybere, another property belonging to him at Nouvelle France, and a third property belonging to one of his relatives at Plaines de Papayes.

During these operations, four high-value vehicles — namely a BMW 740D xDrive, a McLaren Artura, an Aston Martin DB12 Coupe, and a Mini Cooper — along with several high-value jewellery items, including chains, rings and watches, were seized. The total value of the seized assets exceeds MUR 100 million.

Mr Emrith appeared before the District Court of Rivière du Rempart, where a provisional charge was lodged against him. The FCC objected to his release on bail, and he has been remanded in police custody.

The investigation is ongoing.
