Established under section 5 of the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) Act 2023, the Education and Preventive Division (EPD) is mandated to discharge the functions and powers conferred upon the Commission pursuant to section 6(1)(h) of the FCC Act 2023.
Consisting of a multidisciplinary team of professionals from the fields of Accounting, Auditing, Communication, Economics, Finance, Education, Legal and Multimedia, the functions of the EPD include the following:
- carry out public campaigns to alert the public on the dangers of financial crimes and the manner by which complaints against financial crimes shall be made;
- examine and review practices and procedures of any public body in order to facilitate the detection of financial crimes and ways by which financial crimes may be eliminated;
- exercise vigilance and superintendence over the integrity systems of public bodies and issue such guidelines where necessary;
- liaise with private sector organisations and trade unions for the setting up of anti-financial crimes practices;
- organise workshops and other activities to promote campaigns for the prevention and elimination of financial crimes; and
- assist in enhancing the school curriculum so as to educate children on the dangers of financial crimes.
