The Southern Africa Regional Anti-Corruption and Asset Recovery Workshop, organized by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in collaboration with the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC), took place from Monday, 13 May to Thursday, 16 May 2024 at the InterContinental Mauritius Resort Balaclava Fort. The workshop saw participation from Mauritius, Seychelles, South Africa, Angola, Zambia, Kenya, and Tanzania, with delegations comprising prosecutors, investigators, and financial intelligence personnel from each country.
Building on the success of a previous workshop held in January 2023 at the International Law Enforcement Academy in Gaborone, Botswana, this event was the second in an ongoing series aimed at fostering increased networking and collaborative problem-solving in investigation and prosecution.
The primary goal of the workshop was to establish a robust regional network of anti-corruption experts. Participants engaged in discussions and exchanged best practices related to the investigation and prosecution of grand corruption, money laundering, and transnational criminal cases. Key topics included strategies for combating corruption, recovering assets laundered overseas, utilizing human intelligence, securing mutual legal assistance, and tracing assets. The workshop also addressed emerging trends in international grand corruption, aiming to equip participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to tackle these challenges effectively.
