In light of the ongoing investigation conducted by the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) and the arrest of Mr. Lilram Deal, Assistant Commissioner of Police, on 20 June 2025 for an alleged offence of money laundering in breach of the provisions of the Financial Intelligence and Anti-Money Laundering Act 2002, the suspect filed a motion for bail which was heard before the District Court of Port Louis (Division III) on 01 July 2025.
The FCC objected to the granting of bail on the grounds of risk of interference with witnesses, tampering with evidence and risk of absconding. After considering the submissions of both parties, the Court set aside the motion for bail. The motor vehicle, namely a Toyota RAV4 has been placed into the custody of the Commission.
This matter underscores the seriousness of the allegations and the FCC’s unwavering commitment to pursuing financial crimes with diligence, independence, and in strict adherence to the rule of law.
