The Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Basel Institute on Governance. The MoU reinforces Mauritius’ commitment to international cooperation in the fight against financial crimes and asset recovery.

The agreement was officially signed on 04 October 2025 by Mr T. Dawoodarry, Acting Director-General of the FCC, and Mr Iker Lekuona, Director of the International Centre for Asset Recovery (ICAR), representing the Basel Institute.

The MoU aims to:

  • Strengthen the FCC’s capacity to identify and recover assets linked to corruption, organised crime, economic and financial crime, and drug trafficking;
  • Support the development of strategies and plans for investigating complex financial crime cases;
  • Facilitate access to intelligence and evidence from foreign jurisdictions to support domestic investigations, prosecutions, and asset recovery efforts.

This collaboration enhances Mauritius’ efforts to combat financial crimes. We look forward to working closely with the Basel Institute, including through staff attachments and knowledge sharing.
