In a resounding demonstration of Mauritius leadership in the global anti-corruption movement, the Republic of Mauritius, through the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC), alongside South Africa, proudly co-chaired the landmark African Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Network (AFR LEN) and Partnerships for Anti-corruption Global Forum hosted by the World Bank at its Headquarters in Washington D.C. from April 7 to 9, 2025.
AFR LEN is part of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development/ African Development Bank (OECD/AfDB) Joint Initiative to support business integrity and anti-bribery efforts across Africa
Mauritius and South Africa were instrumental in the setting up of AFR LEN, a dynamic regional platform that connects African law enforcement bodies to enhance cooperation, intelligence sharing, and collective action against corruption, money laundering and illicit financial flows.
Since successful pilot of the AFR LEN in Pretoria, South Africa, in November 2022, in April 2024 the inaugural AFR LEN meeting was held in April 2024 in Plaine Magnien, Mauritius, demonstrating steady momentum.
Through the AFR LEN, Mauritius aims to strengthen regional cross-border cooperation and enhance the prosecution of complex financial crimes including corruption.
Mauritius leading with purpose and precision
The FCC’s delegation, composed of two representatives, were at the forefront and actively engaged in dynamic exchanges across the three-day forum, covering pivotal themes:
- 7 April: International Cooperation in Foreign Bribery and Transnational Corruption
- 8 April: Partnerships, Public Leadership & Transparency
- 9 April: Building Ecosystems of Integrity
Top-tier law enforcement officials, global thought leaders and anti-corruption champions from across continents participated in high-level discussions, sharing insights, strategies and bold new approaches to tackling financial crimes including corruption at the AFR LEN global forum. This forum will build cutting-edge investigative capabilities, sustain commitment to transparency and in tackling corruption at both public and private sector levels.
A New Era for Mauritius
As the apex agency responsible for leading the Republic of Mauritius in the battle against financial crimes including corruption, Mauritius is poised for its broader mission: to root out financial crimes including corruption, uphold transparency and secure a future of integrity for Mauritius and beyond. Mauritius through the e FCC is driving change not only within its own jurisdiction but also across continents. The presence of two FCC officials at this forum is eloquent and sends a clear message: Mauritius is not on the sidelines—Mauritius is at the center of the global fight against corruption.
