Two major achievements of the FCC to enhance the fight against financial crimes in the field of regional and international collaboration are the following:
Participant Member of the Organisation for Economic
Co-operation and Development Working Group on Bribery (OECD WGB)
Mauritius became a ‘participant’ member of the OECD WGB in February 2023.
In this context, the FCC, as focal point, presented a third oral report on progress made to fulfil the accession criteria in the recent OECD plenary meeting held in June 2024. The UK Government is assisting Mauritius by providing expert assistance from GovRisk, a UK based consultancy organization conversant with preparing countries in this process.
Mauritius is now actively preparing to accede to the OECD Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions (The OECD Anti-Bribery Convention).
Participation in G20 meetings 2023
India assumed the Presidency of the G20 from December 2022 to November 2023 and Mauritius was invited as a guest country to participate in the G20 meetings and Summit. The FCC headed the G20 thematic issues on Anti-Corruption for Mauritius and contributed to G20 documents, namely the Compendium of Good Practices in Enhancing the Role of Auditing in Tackling Corruption and the 2023 Accountability Report on Mutual Legal Assistance, which were adopted by the G20.
The FCC also contributed to the drafting and finalisation of G20 High-Level Principles, reflecting the priority issues of G20 which are, among others, law enforcement cooperation and information sharing, asset recovery mechanisms and the promotion of integrity and effectiveness of Anti-Corruption Agencies.
